Having done extensive research into the vehicle CCTV domain and looking into what the end user wants from a mobile CCTV solution we have together with our manufacturers developed the perfect mobile CCTV solution. A major issue for any local councils approving a vehicle CCTV system is whether the system meets the Data Protection Act. Currently the Data Protection Act code of practice, point 8.1 states;
Storing and viewing the images
“Recorded material should be stored in a way that maintains the integrity of the image. This is to ensure that the rights of individuals recorded by the CCTV system are protected and that the material can be used as evidence in court. To do this you need to carefully choose the medium on which the images are stored, and then ensure that access is restricted”
For this reason our mobile DVR units are designed to give physical security via the lockable compartment, password based security via the username and password, date and time stamps and a watermarking feature which ensures data integrity. This as you can see would ensure that any data recorded meets the strict guidelines of the Data Proctection Act.
Another issue that is important in the data protection act code of practice is to ensure the quality of video footage is of a good standard in order for it to be used for evidence in court. The Data Protection Act, code of practice point 7.1 also states;

“It is important that a CCTV system produces images that are of a suitable quality for the purpose for which the system was installed. If identification is necessary, then poor quality images which do not help to identify individuals may undermine the purpose for installing the system. “
At Mobile CCTV Direct we ensure that the cameras we use are only the best Day/Night cameras which give a clear image whether it is day or night. Also in light of this code of practice, our mobile DVR’s come with a 160GB Hard Disk ensuring that there is no or very little video compression. Many of our competitors use smaller hard disks which results in a high level of video compression. A high level of compression will result in a poorer picture quality on playback.
